Way back when, they'd intended to have a love theme between Pocahontas and John Smith. It made sense, after all it was a Disney love story, and Disney love stories need a Disney love theme. The theme itself was called If I Never Knew You and was intended for the tent scene as Pocahontas and John are saying their goodbyes to each other before John's intended execution.

For perfectly understandable pacing reasons, they cut the song out, and If I Never Knew You was turned into an end credits single. For some time afterward the only access we fans had to the cut movie version was an incomplete black-and-white rough animation version available in some DVD releases.

But now, a fully-animated and coloured version of the scene has been restored to the movie in the new 10th Annniversary DVD. I have to say that although the artwork is a little awkward at times, the integration of the scene is seamless and mighty impressive.

A teensy weensy comment from me: While I understand why they cut it out, this new fully-fleshed out scene makes my hopelessly romantic heart jump for joy. My favourite part is that bit up there where Pocahontas and John are touching foreheads... The sheer intimacy of it gives me goosebumps.

Another cool bit is at the end when Pocahontas sees a vision of herself and John in the river, and she takes John's hand... This echoes nicely the scene earlier in the movie where Pocahontas saw a vision of herself and Kocoum, but she refused to take his hand.
